Preah Vihear Temple
Preah Vihear Temple (Khmer: ប្រាសាទព្រះវិហារ Prasat Preah Vihea) is an ancient Hindu temple built during the period of the Khmer Empire, which sits atop a 525-meter (1,222-foot) cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains in the province of Preah Vihear in the Cambodia. In 1962, following a long dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over property, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague ruled that the temple is in Cambodia.

With a view of many miles on a plain, Prasat Preah Vihear has the most spectacular scenery of all the temples built during the Khmer Empire of six centuries. As a key building of the empire's spiritual life, it has been supported and modified by successive kings and therefore has elements of various architectural styles. Preah Vihear is unusual among Khmer temples under construction along a long north-south axis, rather than having the conventional rectangular plane facing east. The temple gives its name to the province of Preah Vihear in Cambodia, where it is now located, as well as to the Khao Phra Wihan National Park, which borders it in Sisaket province, Thailand, and through which the temple is more easily accessible. On July 7, 2008, Preah Vihear was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
