The Tonlé Sap of Cambodia is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and has many favorable conditions for creating the habitat for the people of Siem Reap. Therefore, it plays an important and indispensable role in your life and economic. Mechrai residents move all homes, schools, restaurants, markets and necessities of life to the lake, although water levels fluctuate seasonally, even pets and cattle were also fed with floating pens. Due to these significant seasonal changes, their houses are specially designed, some up to 20 nourish themselves as a precautionary rain season starting in June. The traditional wooden boats are the only means of moving of the locals here.

The floating fishing village Mechrey will be an ideal stop if you are interested in working the lives of the locals after visiting the ancient temple of Angkor. There is a children's school in the village where visitors can donate money, food, clothes and books to encourage them to study. Any contributions that are minimal are also welcome here.
